Is the roadkill of wild animals a punishable offense in India?
Roadkill of wild animals is a major cause of animal mortality in India. The Wildlife Protection Act of 1972 makes it a punishable offense to kill wild animals. The punishment for killing a wild animal is imprisonment of up to three years and/or payment of a fine. The Wildlife Conservation Act of 2020 makes the act of killing a protected animal a punishable offense and provides higher penalties for killing any wild animal.
